The Fifth “Explore the Glamour of Hualien Alleyways” Photography Contest Guidelines

Aim:

The purpose of this contest is to encourage everyone, especially the youths, who are working, studying, living or sightseeing in Hualien, to slow down the pace and acquaint the local lifestyle, approach the environment that surround us, and hence be more attentive to the people, affairs, things and sceneries that compose our community.

Organizer:

The Members of Cittaslow Hualien.

Eligibility:

Open to anyone who loves taking photos.

Theme:

Incorporate “the landscapes of Hualien” as the essential element, record people, affairs, things or nature of Hualien from the perspective of local conservation and social development.

Presentation:

Portray the theme or observation with one photograph accompanied by a maximum of 500 words. Indicate time and location of the photograph on the application form.

Format:

1.      The photos must be taken with either film or digital camera, with resolution of 5 megapixels and above.

2.      The application form must be filled in Word document.

3.      When submitting, attach the original photo and the application form (including the license agreement) to the email. The process is as followed:

a.      Title your email subject “The Fifth ‘Explore the Glamour of Hualien Alleyways’ application , Participant’s Name, Entry Title.jpg”

b.      The attachment should contain 2 separate files:

                                                              i.      Application form (Word file, no photos needed), with “The Fifth ‘Explore the Glamour of Hualien Alleyways’ application, Participant’s Name, Entry Title.jpg” as the file name.

                                                            ii.      Photo, with “The Fifth ‘Explore the Glamour of Hualien Alleyways’ application, Participant’s Name, Entry Title.jpg” as the file name.

Submission:

Time of Submission:

The contest is open for submission from today to 31^st March 2012.

Evaluation:

1.      The judges panel consists of professional photographers and individuals who are familiar with the concept of Cittaslow movement.

2.      The entries will be scored upon “overall relevance to the theme” (40%), “photographic skills” (30%) and “written content” (30%).

3.      A special note:

We would like to encourage everyone to slow down the pace, observe the surrounding, explore stories or landscapes fascinating, interesting or worthy of attention.

We seek works that depict the relationships among people, animals, plants and environment, as well as the participants’ solicitudes toward the community.

Photos and texts should complement each other, with the emphasis on the procedure and experience of urban and community observation. This is not a contest for professional photography and literary masterpiece.

Award:

“Award of Merit” (3 places): A Cittaslow Fortune Bag worth TWD 5,000 in value and an award certificate.

“Award of Excellence” (5 places): A Cittaslow Fortune Bag worth TWD 1,000 in value and an award certificate.

@ The awards may be vacant when the entries do not meet the standard of the contest. Participants are limited to 1 award each.

Schedule for Announcement:

The list of nominees is scheduled to be announced on April 11^th on Cittaslow Hualien blog, and a notification email sent to all nominees. The award presentation will be held during a Cittaslow gathering at the end of April (location to be announced.)

Tour Exhibition:

An exhibit of awarded entries is scheduled to tour around Cittaslow stores in May. For more information regarding the exhibit, please visit Cittaslow Hualien blog.

Return Policy:

All entries will not be returned, please reserve a copy.

Supplementary Provision:

1.      Photo-series, print films and works that have been cropped and resized will not be accepted.

2.      Entries that have participated in other contests or published will not be accepted. Entries with copyright controversy or copyright forfeited will not be accepted. All entries must be original works, any violators will be held responsible for legal liabilities. Participants in violation of this rule will be disqualified, rewards and certificates removed and the vacancy will not be filled.
